Explore the Vedic lunar month, naming logic, and the elasticity of time through Adhika Māsa.
Drag planets to see month name shifts. Watch how the moon's position relative to the Earth and Sun defines the Vedic month name.
Drag the slider to simulate years passing. Watch the lunar calendar drift from the solar one — and see Adhika Māsa snap it back into alignment.
Vedic lunar months (Māsas) are named after the Nakṣatra (lunar mansion) in which the Moon is full (Pūrṇimā) during that month. For example, the first month of the Vedic calendar, Caitra (Chaitra) Māsa, is named because the Full Moon occurs in the Citrā (Chitra) Nakṣatra. Similarly, Kārtika is named after Kṛttikā, Vaiśākha after Viśākhā, and so on. Explore the 12 months below to see their corresponding Nakṣatras.
Explore the 180° coordinate inversion between Heliocentric (physical truth) and Geocentric (observational astrology) perspectives. Witness exactly how the Vaiśākha month is defined astronomically.
